Catholic Schoolhouse Information

Welcome to our Shreveport, Louisiana Chapter of Catholic Schoolhouse!

We’re glad you’re here to learn a little more about us.

We meet three out of four Mondays each month in the  Faith Formation Building of Saint Mary of the Pines Catholic Church located at 1050 Bert Kouns Industrial Loop, Shreveport. Many families choose to begin our day with mass at the church of Saint Mary of the Pines at 8:30.  We begin our schoolhouse day at 9:00 am for morning prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance, and chorus. Grammar students then move into their academics where they learn and review memory work and enjoy half-hour classes of hands on art and science. Dialectic students move into their academics which includes communication which includes speech in a variety of styles, and writing with IEW for dialectic or Lost Tools of Writing for rhetoric. Dialectic also has an hour of seminar with socratic discussion and interactive projects on various subjects such as history, literature, logic, Catholic culture, and Church documents. These guide students to learn to think and prepare them to express and defend their opinions, not just check a box on a curriculum checklist. We are aware that we are forming future Catholic adults, not just educating children. Our one-of-a-kind upper level Fine Arts Program offers quarterly seminars integrating art, music history, and culture in addition to hands-on projects in the style of famous artists of the time period. Dialectic students continue with hands-on science like the grammar students but for one hour every other week to allow for deeper study.

At the end of our class day, 12:30 p.m., families are invited to share lunch and social time before heading home, either at the park or in the parish Hall at Saint Mary of the Pines. (CSH keeps classes only in the morning so pregnant mothers and babies can get their naps and upper level students can complete other afternoon lessons or activities.)

Each family is responsible for purchasing materials including the Tour Guide, History Cards, and Music Memory Work CDs.  These are available at the Catholic Schoolhouse Store. Other materials used by the upper levels will be provided as part of their supplies. Otherwise, all supplies for science, art, and homeroom are covered by the annual supply fee.  Snacks are also covered through the supply fee.

Our CSH Community is a real blessing to us. We hope it will be the same for you! Feel free to contact me to learn more and with any questions you may have.

Many Blessings,
