I have a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Communication/Language Arts and a Master’s degree in TESOL(Teaching English to Students of Other Languages). My teaching experiences include teaching English to K-12th grade and adults for 5 years in the public schools, as well as Kindergarten for 7 years in a Catholic School in Minnesota. I have also volunteered teaching Confirmation, Vacation Bible School, Life Teen core team for high school young adults and traveled the US doing missionary work with an amazing Catholic group called NET Ministries.
My husband and I believe that formation of our children in morals and values is vital and most important in teaching our children the meaning of life, which is to know, love and serve our Lord. We believe that Catholic Schoolhouse can help us form our children in all academic areas with an emphasis on our rich Catholic faith. This will be my second year homeschooling. I look forward to teaching/growing in my faith with my co-director Katie, as well as supporting other families in homeschool education. After moving from Minnesota 3 years ago, my husband and I reside in Shreveport, LA with our five children ages 5 yrs, 4 yrs, 2 yr old twins and 7 months.
I graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.A. in Biology and then from the University of Florida with a M.D. The Air Force allowed me to “travel the world” and practice pediatrics in Ohio, England, Nevada, Washington, and finally Louisiana. After completing a Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics fellowship in Seattle, Washington, I had the pleasure of working with families of children with special needs including autism, ADHD, cerebral palsy, and learning disabilities. After 13 joyful years in the Air Force, my more challenging career as a stay-at-home mom/pediatrician began. Throughout the years, I have established Life Teen youth communities at various Air Force bases, volunteered as a Life Teen core member, taught religious education, Confirmation, and assisted with Vacation Bible School. Being a catechist for a local “Catechesis of the Good Shepherd” program this past two years has kept me learning about my faith and children’s formation. Last, but not least, I have taught parenting courses to young pregnant women living at Heart of Hope, a local maternity home, for several years.
Our family has grown by leaps and bounds since moving to Shreveport with my husband about eight years ago. We have four amazing children (7yrs, 6yrs, 5yrs, and 2yr) and believe that homeschooling is the best option for our family. We enjoy the journey of educating our children about the awesomeness of God’s creation and love. We started “homeschooling” preschool three years ago and gained confidence with play-doh creations, finger painting, and outdoor play. Two years ago, we chose Catholic Schoolhouse as our main curriculum and LOVED it. Our family learned so much, but most importantly, our kids’ love of learning strengthened. Last year was such a blessing when we started the Shreveport CSH chapter! We have wonderful families to share our love for God, our love for learning, and our love for beautiful chaos.
