We started!

September 10, 2018 | Posted by Mary Catherine Aranda

What a whirlwind of a week!  We had a great start to our year.  Father John Paul’s blessing after mass has set us in the right direction.  I enjoyed seeing all of you in Science!  So many new faces and new ideas!

Important info:
1.  No mass at St. Mary’s of the Pines on Thursday.  Father John Paul is out of town for a funeral.  We’ll still start at 9:00am in the church.
2.  Presentations for this week:  Clement, Dill, and Sibal families.
3.  If you have tuition checks or questions, please see Amy and she’ll be happy to help.
4.  Red River Refuge has monthly homeschooling day this Wednesday from 9-11am.  You can register that day (it’s free).
5.  First field trip is tentatively on September 27 (Thursday) at Walter B. Jacobs from 10-12.  We will go on nature walks and discuss plants, flowers, etc.  This is a free optional field trip.
6.  Virtue this week:  Self-Control

Week 2 Preview:
In Religion, we continue our study of Moses and the Mass.  For our history sentence song, we’ll be jamming to the stories of Ancient Egypt.  Beware…this is a catchy song!  Our history timeline adds 5 new cards with Noah’s Ark, the unification of upper and lower Egypt, the Great Pyramid at Giza, the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and the Tower of Babel.  If scholars are trying to memorize the timeline, make sure they learn at least 1 date per 5 cards.  The amazing process of photosynthesis will be examined in Science this week.  Our pre-grammar scholars may even go on a nature hunt for those green leaves with chlorophyll.  We continue the 1st conjugation of “to love” in Latin.  In Language Arts, we focus on nouns.  In Art, our artist in residence, Ms. Amy will be taking on the task of teaching fresco art…lots of oohs and aahhs!  In Math, we move on to skip counting 4s and 5s.  In Geography, it’s time to get out your maps and look at the key lines. Can’t wait to see everyone again!

Extra:  Here’s a fun family activity to try.  Hoping to inspire some of you for Destination Imagination!
