Week 11

November 28, 2017 | Posted by Mary Catherine Aranda

We made it to Week 11 and we are at a new location!  We will be at St. Mary’s of the Pine’s this week.  There is mass at 8:30am and then we will start around 9:05am.  It’s going to be a wonderful place to grow in our faith and our understanding of God’s world.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and is ready to get back to work!  Week 11 takes us into the Civil War as we discuss Abraham Lincoln, Clara Barton, the Homestead Act, and the Emancipation Proclamation.  We are still learning about St. Rose Duchesne in Religion and Beethoven in Music.  We are answering the question, “What is God like?” in Religion, as well.  In Science, it’s all about air masses, wind, and fronts.  In Art, we start our fabric quilt patterns, which will be a lot of fun!  More states and capitals are on the agenda for Geography.  The “Glory Be” is being repeated in Latin so we all learn it well.  Did you know that there’s hand motions to the prayer as well?  Check out Basecamp for details.  My kids love the memory sentence for Language Arts this week because it says, “BUT”.  When will their fascination with potty words end?!?  Last, but, not least, in math we talk about the area of the a rectangle.

Field Trip update:  December 8 (Friday) at the Riverside Theater.  Meet in lobby at 10:10am.  Cost $3/person.

Semester Showcase update:  If you haven’t chosen a state for the geography fair yet, let me know soon so we don’t have any doubles.  We may practice the program on December 14 in the morning briefly at St. Mary’s of the Pines.

Service Project:  Start brainstorming about a possible service project that we can do.  Maybe we can have the kids sing some of their songs at one of the nursing homes.  We also talked about making blessing bags.  We would love to hear your ideas!

See you Thursday!
