Week 14

January 16, 2018 | Posted by Mary Catherine Aranda

It was good to be back!  Crazy, but good.  I’m hoping everything settles back down this week.  Hope everyone had a great snow day!

Our journey continues…Week 14.  Our timeline features wealthy industrialists, public libraries, Buffalo Bill, the Eastman camera, and immigration.  The History song is all about immigration, a topic that is still important in our nation today.  We continue our blessing before meals in Latin.  This quarter in science is so fun!  I think everyone enjoyed extracting the strawberry DNA last week and doing body outlines.  Science is all about the brain and the nervous system this week.  Here come the brainiacs!  In art, we learn how to make drawn stick figures “move”.  I have a feeling there’s going to be lots of flip books made in my house after Thursday.  In language arts, we are learning about the four basic kinds of sentences.  It’s nice to have some songs that they already know from last year.  Math is all about adding zero to numbers.  Geography brings us into Leighton territory with the Great Lakes.  In religion, we continue our study of St. Damien and ask the question “who founded the church?”

Field trip:  Week of February 1.  More to come.

We will plan on have a Valentine’s party on February 8.  Have your kids start thinking about their Valentine’s box.  Last year we tried to have it relate to something that they studied this year.  It’s a fun time!
